Dana Point, CA – As part of the multi-phase Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Project, a new three-level parking structure is rising at the entrance to the harbor, promising not just improved access and modern amenities, but enhanced structural safety built for the future.
Located at the corner of Golden Lantern and Dana Point Harbor Drive, the new parking facility will offer 984 total parking stalls, including 93 spaces dedicated to boaters, along with electric vehicle charging stations and support services. Designed with visitors, boaters, and the community in mind, the structure is expected to open by June 2025.
Helping bring this critical project element to life are two key partners: Encore Building Products, specialists in seismic expansion joint systems, and Southwest Specialty Contracting, who are overseeing the installation of these systems with precision and care.
The Dana Point Harbor is not only a treasured coastal destination—it’s also situated in a seismically active region. That’s why the parking structure’s design team prioritized seismic performance and joint system integration from the outset.
Encore Building Products, known for its technical expertise and solution-driven approach, worked closely with the design and construction teams to specify custom expansion joint systems that support the structure’s movement, thermal tolerance, and load requirements. These systems are essential to maintaining the structural integrity of a multi-level facility built near the shoreline.
Installation of the seismic joints is being handled by Southwest Specialty Contracting, a field-proven contractor with a strong track record in public and civic infrastructure. Their experienced crews are currently at work ensuring the systems are installed to exact specifications and ready for long-term performance.
“This project highlights the importance of thoughtful structural design in coastal areas,” said Brian Carrillo of Encore Building Products. “We’re proud to support this iconic location with expansion joint systems that will help protect and preserve the structure for years to come.”
Bomel Construction is the General Contractor on this key project. Choate Architects provided engineering and architectural support.
Beyond its structural features, the parking facility will provide much-needed amenities for boaters, including:
The garage will also support sustainability goals with integrated EV charging stations, aligning with broader environmental commitments outlined in the harbor’s revitalization plan.
The parking structure is one element of the broader Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Project, a long-awaited initiative being delivered in phases. Phase 1 and 2 are focused on commercial core improvements, including the new parking structure and harbor entry experience. Future phases will address waterfront buildings, retail and restaurant redevelopment, and improvements to marina and dock facilities.
With pedestrian pathways, landscaping, and public access top of mind, the project aims to modernize the harbor while preserving its character and charm.
As construction moves forward, the Dana Point community can look forward to a modern, efficient, and seismically sound parking facility that complements the vibrant future of the harbor.
Encore Building Products and Southwest Specialty Contracting are proud to contribute to the effort—ensuring that safety, resilience, and performance are built into every level of the Dana Point experience.
This landmark project is one of several major California developments where Encore Building Products has delivered hands-on expertise in seismic joint systems, partnering with architects, contractors, and installers to ensure performance, compliance, and constructability.
Century City Center is located in one of the most seismically active regions in the United States. To meet performance goals, Encore is working closely with West Coast Firestop and the design and engineering teams to develop a custom expansion joint strategy that accommodates the building’s movement, structural complexity, and aesthetic requirements.
